my $0.02 on the foodie/celeb/chef/ghost writer outcry
Did Mario Batali actually physically write out every single step to the recipes in his cookbooks? The list of ingredients? Probably not.
But as long as the idea for the dish came from his own musings, and the general process, ingredient ratios, etc. are his own creation (though inspired from others) - I’m ok with that. Once you have a concept and end dish in mind, there are only so many ways you can actually prepare said dish. And I’m sure these chefs in question all had the opportunity to review the final draft before publishing to agree with everything written before their face and name were tied to these creations.
Can you really expect chefs who manage/exec. chef at their restaurant(s), star in TV shows and consult on other TV shows, not to mention have families and personal lives, to pen every single letter + word of their books? Uh uh, no way.
